Ceramic tile over vinyl asbestos tile.
I am beginning to renovate a basement with a bathroom in a 1962 vintage house. The original flooring on the slab is Vinyl asbestos tile adhered with black mastic the also includes asbestos. Most of the tiles are still tightly bonded to the slab, though some popped up in the laundry room and bath room. The plan is for ceramic tile in the bathroom and porcelain tile in the family room and laundry.
I would rather encapsulate that remove the old tile. Would an epoxy modified thiset mortar bond to the vinyl asbesto tile and the exposed adhesive?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks
