Hello – a simple and likely simpleminded question.
I have painted an entire room out with one colour – walls, doors, trim – everything. The trim and doors were nothing to look at and we wanted the room to have a simpler appearance anyways. It worked well and has given us the desired effect.
I have substantial paint (eggshell finish) left over. There are some surfaces that I would like to have a higher level of sheen – entry door to the room, bookcases. I feel pretty wasteful even buying a quart of a higher level of sheen paint in the same colour for such a small area to e painted.
Does anyone know of an additive that could be used with the eggshell paint to achieve a slightly higher level of sheen. I have heard of spar varnish being added to paint but have no experience and I don’t even know, but I suspect, that such a mix would work only with oil based paints.
Any suggestions or experience?

No experience. Always nice to keep some of the original paint (in original condition) in case you ever need to do a touch up. Rather than contaminate your extra paint with an additive (assuming one exists), maybe you can topcoat with glossy water based poly? Just thinking out loud.

I did that over the latex on my office cabinets, to give them a tougher finish - worked greatView Image bakersfieldremodel.com
Paint starts out glossy and flatten agents are added to give it lower glosses.
I doubt that there is no practical way to remove those flatten agents.
A glossy clear coat will increase the sheen. But it won't be quiet the same.
But in a paint (vs a clear finish) it probably that much different from starting with the glossier finish.

you can add deglosser to flatten it but you can't add sheen.

ok thanks everyone. It looks like I'm off to buy a quart of paint. Arrgh. The advice re using a poly finish was one I have used before. It worked well in that situation but I am hoping to avoid an additional application. Thanks again everyone for your advice
