I like the speed of the system now. It has improved greatly. But, for those of us who may not get onto the discussion board everyday (Some of us have to work instead of sitting in the office!!!), would it be possible to list the date the most recent message was posted to the discussion? That way, if it was a week ago that we were on last, we wouldn’t have to pull up every thread just to see if there was anything we hadn’t read yet.
Thanks!

Hi Bryan,
Calculating the dates of the posts for the folders and discussions was one of the features that was causing a speed problem and was removed. (We all miss that feature.) The work around is to start to get comfortable with the little red new tag that appears on the folders and discussions because it really can be used to indicate which items are new.
Here's how to get started with that feature. First you should always log in whenever you visit the site. That's the only way for the system to keep track of which messages are new for you.
Next step is to get caught up on any discussions that you want to read because we're now going to clear away all the NEW tags from everything.
Go to the main level of Breaktime by clicking the link just below the toolbar for "Breaktime- Fine Homebuilding discussion." Then click the Subscribe button in the Toolbar. Next, click the Preference button in the Toolbar scroll all the way to the bottom and click the "Mark subscription list as current" and click Set Preference.
That will clear all the little red new tags off all the folders and discussions, and from then on every time you log in, the little red new tags really will indicate which messages are new for you.
I know this isn't as easy as just visiting and checking the dates, but after you get things set up, being able to log in and then just see what's new since you last logged in works pretty well.

*David,I followed your directions, and I am now signed up to log in each time I enter this site. Now, one more question: What do I need to do so that the next time I log in, what I have already read will no longer show as new?
*Hi Bryan,What do I need to do so that the next time I log in, what I have already read will no longer show as new? That should all happen automatically. Now that you've set things up, next time you log in you should only see the color="red">new tag on discussions and folders that have posts to them that you haven't seen. Here are the details:When you sign in after being away for a week, you will see the color="red">new tag next to every discussion and folder that has had a new message posted to it during the last week. You would then double-click the discussion that has a new message in it, and the system will jump you right to the place in the discussion where the new message is.Actually, when you open the discussion, the system displays the heading message for the discussion, one previous message (for context) and then the new message. The message itself should also be marked with the red NEW! tag. (If you want to see all the messages in that discussion, there is a small "All Msgs" button just below the discussion heading.)After reading everything new in that discussion, you would navigate back out of that discussion to the main level and you will see that the New tag is no longer there for that discussion - because you've just read everything new in there. One tip - Rather than using the Back button in your browser, navigate back up to the main Breaktime level by clicking along the Current Location backpath that appears just below the toolbar at the top and bottom of the page. It will ensure that the system "re-calculates" the new messages accurately. So, am I anywhere close to answering your question?Anyway, lots of tech stuff here. Good luck, welcome, and let me know how it goes.David
*David,Thanks for all of your help. Yes, it's working much better, now that I understand how to use your system. I'll be here more often now.Bryan
