I know it’s an old version, but it was free, and included the manual. Anybody out there use this?
I am real proficient with a 3D mechanical modeling package I have called Cadkey, and somewhat less so with a pretty powerful package called Solid Edge by Intergraph. I have used the Cadkey software exclusively for the past half dozen years to aid in housebuilding and furnituremaking.
Haven’t gotten to Chief yet. Is it worth the time for me to learn?

Try e-mailing Mike smith direct. He's an old hand with it.
Excellence is its own reward!
Just a "hack", homeowner here... I see that Chief Architect makes BH&G Home Designer software for us. Any experience with it? I"ve got the Sierra Designs software and only think it's "adequate".
If anyone knows of Mac design software, I'd sure like to hear about it.
6 was a pretty good version...
our current working version is 8..
and we have 9.5 loaded but not used
as to wether it's worth your while learning it..... ????????
it was certainly worth my while..
one problem.. if your version is unregistered, you will have trouble upgrading... and i bet ,if you learn it , you'll want to upgrade

Yeah, it's unregistered, Mike. But I have been hacking along with this 3D mechanical CAD package for so long now, doing housing stuff, that even 6.0 might be heaven.
Here's something I did for sitework when I built a house for myself a couple years ago. Betcha Chief won't do this. (Whoops! can't attach when revising. The attach is in my next post to this thread.)
What I wish there were is a good on-line tutorial for Chief. Do you know of such a thing?

Here is the rendering I spoke of earlier. Actually, it is of the one we are finishing now, not the one I did for myself in '01.
you're right , micro... 6.0 will do that ... but 8 and 9.5 will make it look like charcoal drawings on a cave..
they both have "terrain"Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
I have 6.0, thanks to Mike Smith, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. So slow am I.
And how did you teach yourself to use it? Does it have a tutorial?
The manual is almost 2" thick and I had a head start with Chief's little brother "3D Home Architect.
Besides, you can't hurt anything if you just jump in and start pushing the buttons.
