read the mfr's stand-off requirements.. that will give you the clearances you need to observe. Then design your chase accordingly
the manufacturer's instructions will give you a minimum of clearance, which when installed perfectly will have a safety factor built in, however i would allow for an extra safety factor if it was my house, if they want 1" give them 2".
that gives extra room for deflection etc etc etc, whatever else that could happen that i cannot forsee. a little extra room can't hurt as long as the pipe is secured properly.
you already have the answer from the manufacturer now, it is usually on a sticker or stamped on the outside of the pipe itself, and is normally the pipe diameter plus four inches. Many coders require that the chase be lined with SR as it passes up through the house also

So it has to be big enough to fit through so the SR can be installed? What is the easiest way to climb up one on the inside? So in a 2 1/2 story house 3 firestops are required? One at each floor? Insulate all the way up? Thanks again.
It can get real tricky, but you can rock and stach pipe as you go up witha tight space.

2" minimum clearance to wood. Fire stop (non flammable) every 10 feet max or at every story intersection.
In a cold climate do I insulate all the way up? Do I try to size the top for the pan flashing size? Thanks for the info.
