Let me start off by saying that I am not a professional. I am merely my own local contractor, sub and laborer for all the repairs and improvements that I do to our property. The information that I have learned from this web site has been very useful so a belated thanks to all.
Some of my questions regarding chimneys are:
1- I was informed by our chimney sweeper that our crown has cracks in it. He recommended a flexible product that you apply on top of the concrete/mortar crown. It is called Flexible Crown by Weathertite Industries. There is no need to fill in the cracks of the crown. Can anybody comment on this product? Quality? Durability?
2- Besides using this flexible product or filling the cracks with mortar, how do you attach a lead (flashing) crown cover? Do I have wrap it around the crown?
Thanks in advance to all.
PS My chimney is easily accessible.

Eug,
Not an area I can really offer advice on, but I can refer you to this earlier < Obsolete Link > thread and tell you what's common around here...
Common around here (New England) is Stephen's method...wrap the flues with something (he uses a couple wraps of foam sealer, I've seen cardboard used as well) then place the mortar. Seal the gap afterwards.
The wrap gives a small margin between flue and cap so when the flue expands and contracts it doesn't exert any pressure on the mortar cap.
I don't see many copper or lead caps...they may be easier for smaller chimneys. In new construction, most here are two or three flue.
