So there is this 30 year old chimney that is leaning about 1 1/2 inch at the roof. Chimney is 24″ x 32″ and about 30′ high.
Does anyone have experience stabilizing a chimney like this? I’m thinking tieing it into the roof structure. Using the diaphragm created by the sheathing for strength. The chimney is against a gable, maybe midpoint on the rafter which is 2×10, sheathing probably 1/2″
What do you think?

I have seen plenty of old chimneys (30 yrs is not old) strapped to the house with like 3/8x 2" bar stock and a couple of lag bolts. Probably will hold things in check for a while, unless the footing is really failing.
That's something like I envisioned. I'm wondering if I should strap it where it is or try to pull it in some. Thinking it might just crack at the mortar joints if I try to pull it. It's pretty flexy
Depending on circumstances which I can't see - you might get a long beam at an angle and jack it back slowly or at least put a strain on it before bolting in.
Pictures ???
No, no pics. Chimney is nice and straight, just got a little lean to it.
