hello everybody, in fhb 180, july 2006, the carpenter built a chinese railing using 11/2″ clear cedar. judging from the pictures i know it’s not 11/2″ square stock, it looks more like 11/2″ x 21/2″. did he make it out of a clear 2×6 cedar and cut the slightly round edeges off and then just ripped it down the middle? what do guys think? does anybody know of any books or magazines with different designs on these railings. any help from you will be greatly appreciated.

IIRC that is a Chippendale railing. A google on on chippendate deck or railing will get you some more examples.
Including this step by step instructions.
