Hi all,
Just doing some research before I make the plunge. Lots of good comments here on the Makita LS1013 but just a bit pricey for me. I see they make a LS1011 which is similar (10″ SCMS) except it is 12 amp, 4600rpm and bevels only in one direction. Also, the table looks different than the LS1013. Guess I am being lured by the name. Also, I found the Delta 36-250 (10″ SCMS) on sale at $399 (normally a $529 value). Does that make this saw the winner?

I'd honestly have to recommend the Makita saw hands down over anything else. I have the 12" LS1220 CMS and would not trade it for anything else in the world. This saw is quiet, accurate, lightweight, powerful and just plain nice to use. The same goes for the new breed of Makita SCMS's (can't speak for the old ones, never used them) The LS1013 has gotten excellent recommendations from other members of this board and I'm sure that you will here these soon. Hope that helps a bit - Nick
*I wouldn't consider the Delta a winner according to some of the reviews. As for the LS1011, I feel it would be a good choice for the price. It does ride on a single pole bearing though.Joe Fusco, a regular poster here said the LS10ll is one of his favorites also.
*My Emerson only bevels to one side (it's about 10 years old, hi-tech at the time: very basic now) - it still makes great cuts with a CMT 5 degree negative blade; however, I would never, ever, buy a single bevel saw or a non-slider again.
*I must admit that I would not purchase the LS1011 or any other single-pole slide arm saw again. I have one in the shop for the second time because of a "warped pole", and I think the sliding mechanism is too delicate for regular construction practices, unless you are VERY careful with it in transport and use. I'd opt for the 8" Hitachi, or spend the money on the 1013. You can do a search on the Makita's however, and see previous posts on both saws.
*Welll Cal it really depends on what you plan to do with your choice of saw. Myself, a Finish Carpenter installing trim 98% of the time. I find the sliding compound saws heavy, expensive & ovrsize. I have been using my DeWalt 12" Compound Chopsaw for about four years now with an 100 tooth trim blade. If I lost it I would replace it without hesitation with the same. I have it mounted on a Delta folding stand with wheels. This combo makes it extremely portable and manageable. "This has been my humble opinion".
*I like the DeWalt 704.12" blade, compounds and is light weight too. For the price, under $300 (and the way we abuse them) you can't beat it.Ed. Williams
*I have an ls1013 and love it. I do only stair and trim work and it is flawless(well almost) for my use. If you are going to use it alot spend the extra money now. My old saw which I still have and use from time to time is the ls1011 great saw but EXTREMELY loud. Single pole made me nervous at first but never was a problem and that was 5 years ago
*F.Y.I .....Sam's Club has the DeWalt DW705 for $295 .....'bout the cheapest price I've seen anywhere.
*Anyone out there have comments on the 10" Hitachi slide saw? I have the old 8 1/2" version. Its a sweet, sweet saw. I have yet to see a slide mechanism as durable, solid and accurate as the Hitachi's. The blade guard is awesome, because it gets out of your line of sight quickly as you plunge down. I wish the table had detents that were more solid. And it bevels only one way.
*My three partners and I have 4 of the saws mentioned here between us, the 2 10" Makitas, the 12" DeWalt asnd the 8 1/2" Hitachi. They are all good tools. Every one of us prefers the saw he uses most. Funny, ain't it.
*Don't do da Delta. I have a 12" Dewalt CMS and 12" single pole Makita sliding dually, which are both used every day for trim. Wouldn't want to have to do without either. I've had some others which I didn't care for, but was able to pass along with a minimal loss, all that is except for a 10" delta slider. Want it?BB
*Any one with any of Milwaukee miter saws? Comments would be appreciated. Thanks
*I would have to put in another vote for the Makita LS 1013. Got one about 6 months ago and it is sweet. Smooth sliding and the soft start is also a plus. Menards in Minnesota has them on sale right now for $475. Worth every cent.
*I have the Milwaukee compound saw and like it. It is rugged, accurate enough for my needs (I did tune it), and easy to carry around. A review sometime ago also rated it as a rugged saw. I look at the Makita 1013, but I really don't have a use for them.Dennis
*Thanks for comments, Dennis. Would you buy one again? I've kind of narrowed my choices to the Milwaulkee or the Dewalt 705. About the same money .....decisions, decisions.
*Yes, but buy what you like. Mostly, the qauality of the work is dependent upon the operator, not the tool. I would not buy a Delta as I had one and teh bearings kept going bad. Dennis
*True enough....unless you are using my brother's Delta.
