Why is it Electrical panel manufacturers require a certain list of breakers to put into their panels?
I have a Thomas and Betts panel with very little options.

Go down to your supplier, or the local big box store, and look at some breakers.
They are not all the same size.
They do not all have the same interface to panel electrical connections.
The panel maker also lists specific breaker types tested with the panel design.
The why is for your safety, and the company's liability.
Because of the manufacturer, I recommend installing new panel.
