When I was young, I was a child in a very poor family, living in a reantal that was run-down, etc., etc., etc. One of the things i remember from that lifetime was what I called a ‘standard’ tub. I guess I called it that because it was an American Standard, but I honestly cannot remember.
Anyway, while in Lowes today the wife and I start flirting with a bathroom renovation idea of replacing an American Standard showertub that has completely failed 4″ cheap tile for the enclosure. We flirted with the idea of ripping out the tub (recycle it to the basement), re-tiling with much bigger tile (12-16″ squares), pedastal sink, and a clawfoot bathtub.
Anyway, we ask the bathroom moron about them selling or special ordering a clawfoot tub and what it would cost. “$3,000 to 5,000 starting for the tub, not including the fixtures or home delivery.” WTH? Since when does my childhood shanty bathtub become a luxury item? So, we go home after some other errands and I hop onto the Internet. Sure, you can fine some $1800-2500 units (included delivery), but we also found some $1100-1350 units (cast iron, too) that also included free delivery.
So, has anyone actually bought one of these tubs lately, and if so what did you pay for it? This is really more for a guest bedroom’s dedicated bath.

I bought a "new" clawfoottub approx 4 years ago when I was redoing a bathroom in my 1912 bungalow. The
existing bath had a clawfoot but had been wrecked over the years by well meaning but badly done remodel jobs. I wanted to retain
the old look but the old tub was too far gone. I thought about refinishing the tub but had read mixed reviews about the process. I
decided to go new. If I recall the tub was about $1500 new plus the fixtures, etc. With a claw foot, all the plumbing is exposed so you'll need to upgrade
the drain, overflows, shut off valves, etc to something that looks nice (unless you don't care). Here is a picture of the bathroom after it was completed.

Wow, I really like how you redid that room. Do you mind my asking where you got the tub from?
I bought most of the fixtures at a place local here in town (Sacramento), Mac the antique plumber. I used him as he was here in town. He has a web site as well. Here's a link to some of the footed tubs he sells.http://www.antiqueplumber.com/Search.bok?category=Bathtubs:Traditional%20Leg%20TubsDiane
