I have a client who wants to stain and seal the concrete floors in her house (1960’s ranch). The current carpet is installed using tack strips, but it looks like somebody glued down either carpet or vinyl at some time in the past. How can I get the remaining olf cement off without harming the slab? I know i can use a concrete grinder, but the object is to preserve the slick finish and get the job done comparatively cheaply.
Any suggestions?

Bump?
There are solvents. But I have no idea how good a job that they will do.I suspect that you will have a hard time getting a uniform stain unless you either abrade the concrete or put on a topping coat.
