Cedar shake siding on my house (white/ red cedar??) has, over the years turned an ugly black/ dark grey. I would appreciate info on the proper methods for cleaning/ restoring the shakes. I know that pressure washing is a deffinite no no! What type of cleaning solutions, and application methods sholud I be using? And, once allowed to dry, what’s the best preservative? I know it’s never gonna look as good as new, and will eventually turn grey again, which is fine. I just want to clean it up, and seal it properly.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
Robert

For cleaning Cabot's makes a wood brightener that contains oxalic acid. Follow the label directions, protect your plants and rinse well. As for a preservative, I'd use a bleaching oil or a weathering stain.
Thanks for your reply!
How is this oaxalic solution applied? I've heard of people using a low pressure sprayer; i.e. a car wash, or garden variety sprayer. Any thoughts?

I use a garden type sprayer, it works fine. Rinse it well after use.
