If you have bare wood and are priming with latex, go ahead and clean with water. Just dust it off good first, vacuum it if you wanna get crazy. Cleaning with water dampens the wood which helps to draw the primer in. Something about the primer displacing the water as it evaporates within the wood, and it opens the grains a bit helping with primer adhesion. Give the prime coat a nice sanding and cleaning before putting on the first coat of paint.
Are you priming with oil? If so you might want to go about it differently. Clean with paint thinner? Tack cloth? Hmmm.
Im using a paint thinner called soy gel it has almost no odor and is great. the best pain remover ive ever used. im going to use latex not oil. I just wanted to make sure its ok to use water to clean the bare wood after i strip it and it would damage the wood in any way. is just soap and water ok or wqater and bleach or it doesnt matter
Didn't know that about the latex primer with the evaporation adhesion. Good post.
