closed cell spray foam questions

thinking of using spray foam for underside of house once I replace the floor. called a guy who said roof and floor, 2.20 sq ft, 2 1/2″ thick. walls 2″ thick 1.80 sq ft. I’ll probably do the floor, the reason being I want insulation and vapor barrier, walls and roof another day. these prices sound good? I am in NJ, I thought they were fair.

I just had a small addition (13x14') insulated with iceyene foam 2x4x8' walls, 2x6 cathedral ceiling and 10" i joists in crawl space (180sqft) done for $1500, this was minimum charge for trip, really don't know sqft charge. Great job, structure is tighter than a bugs a$$. I used foam because of all the windows and patio door, wanted to max. r value
assuming the cathedral ceiling is 13 x 9 each side, with other dimensions, i figure 400 sq ft, which is 2.37 sq ft.
Hi I just bit the bullet and had my attic done . Its a non vented 1934 built house very little insulation
I had them foam the rafters
this am it was 6' out I had an instant read and It said 68 on the kitchen I went up stairs and it said 64 I then went upstairs into the unheated attic and it said 58 . My house is the only one on the street with snow on th roof
The attic door rattels now when the downstairs door going outside is closed . The chimney effect is definitely gone
Im hopinfg to see a substantial savings in the heat bill I also foamed the rim box in the basement

I was wondering how much pressure this stuff exerts, could it push boards and battens out?
if you try to ccontain it.but you are open on one side, right?

yeah, I'll be taking down the bead board interior walls, probably replace them with paperless drywall or greenboard. I figured it would probably not be a problem but thought I'd ask. How's your winter been, normal snow or below average?
Seems like a pretty good price.
Fill out your profile buddy, lets us know where your from etc. :)
Spent so much of the winter plowing that I can barely get in to BT to BS

we should have had 8" by now, only recorded 2 so far.
LOL, we don't start counting it until there is 2". That is what we call a light dusting

i got news for you, that was a combination of different "snow storms", not even one snowfall.
You guys are smart that way - not keeping all your flakes in one basket.

we try to keep the flakes in local government, easier to keep an eye on them.
Doc if there are any gaps between the board and batten, Icynene will squeeze out to the exterior. One fix may be to caulk or tape the joints first. Rich
That did occur to me, and I probably will tape or something first, but I'll be taking all the paint off with a piant shaver, so any that gets through will probably not be a problem. I'm going to call some other guys and get there per ft price, I'll discuss that concern with them.
I have another question, I assume the sq footage is reduced by windows and doors, what about studs, rafters and joists? Do they subtract out there dimensions when figuring actual sq footage?
Doc, I would say they figure it solid then take out any large windows and doors. Never any studs or framing dimensions. I'm in Tewksbury. I like to do large gut renovations and additions, some new, but that work has dried up for now. Have always done the finish carpentry, interior and exterior, so now that seems to be what most of the work is. Just bid a nice basement finish, wine room, media room, bar, bathroom, would be good right now. North Pole Insulation, in Whitehouse, NJ is installing spray foam now, may want to check them out, Ask for Dave. Good Luck, Rich
Thanks Rich
just looked at your profile, central NJ, I'm in Sayreville. What sort of construction do you do?
You gonna ever get that place finished? <G>
I'll answer that question two ways: we will have a CO and be able to use it this summer.
Now as to wether it will be finished, that's a silly question. Guys like me are always "fixing up the place", it's what we enjoy. I've got a 7 yard concrete pour to do, which will take me to the next stage. I have to add 4" to the foundation, which is 8" already, to fix a problem with house extending out past current foundation, pour a curb, a dust cap in crawl space and some other minor things ( slab for porch stairs to land, etc). I plan on forming as necessary over next 3-4 weeks and pouring when weather gets better. Hopefully things will continue along after that without to many hold ups.

Kevin-
just make sure you allow some time so we can go play Farmstead this year.
You know Shep, all BS aside, I was watching Tiger earlier today and thought, "get this house done and start playing golf again". I played about 5 times last year and played well. I didn't put any pressure on myself and had fun.

I LOVE my closed cell insulation. It has made my house much tighter. No drafts , warmer , quieter, lower thermostat settings, etc. I went with 3.5 inches and I'm in CA. In NJ I would recommend going thicker than 2.5" . When the crew showed up to do my job I threw them each $50 ans asked for extra attention to detail. As a result of the tip my attic spaces are 5-6 inches deep
