Posted this in Const., figured I’d get the business line of thinking. Just got the APA code Plus info in the mail. looks like a good system. Anyone else do this? Seems like a selling point on additions and such over the competition. easier to explain why you’re NOT the lowest price. Jeff

Jeff,
When the APA started the Code Plus program in the early 90's I 'joined' since it was free. My building practices already exceeded thier requirements. They sent me a few marketing materials.... Then two years later they wanted a $50/year fee so I dropped.
I found no benefit from participation. It's kind of like the BBB. You pay to belong. And unless you go out of your way to market the Code Plus system, not many people will recognize what it is.
I present clients with a list of what I typically use for sheathing products for floors, walls and roofs, and use that as a stepping off point for a discussion about apples and oranges. I also present that my practices exceede the minimum Code Plus requirements if they are knowledgable about the program.
