I am considering installing beadboard on a ceiling, in the confines of a grid consisting of 1×6’s and panel moulding, to create a coffered effect. I have seen this treatment on a 10 foot ceiling and thought it looked great. But my ceiling is only 8 feet and I am concerned that it will give the room a cramped feeling. I read an article that said a true coffered ceiling under nine feet would give a cramped feeling. Considering this treatment would work, what would be the pros and cons of using MDF for my 1 by’s, would finish nails be sufficient for holding or would they also need adhesive, would the MDF hold the nails for the panel moulding? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
