So whats your prefence? It seems to me that coil are better because they are more compact and they can hold more nails before a reload. Is there some advantages to stick nailers that I’m missing?

weight of the gun and using it bewteen studs, (size). If those are a factor, and if you arent constantly nailing, these issues may take precedence.
Oh ans the ease of putting extra sticks in your bags rather than coils.

If you are only going to buy one gun, I would opt for a stick gun. I like the ease of changing nail sizes, and a partial stick of nails survives a lot better after being stepped on better than a partial coil! I like Hitachi, full round head, takes a likkin' and keeps on tickin'.
Because of nail capacity, coil nailers really sing at very high volume jobs - like nailing sheathing, subfloor or roof decking.

Never underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.

We have a good assortment of framing guns. We have a DeWalt stick nailer (crap), 2 Bostich (N88), 2 old Hitahci NR83A, Max super framer, 1 Hitahci NV83A2 coil framer, 1 Max CN890II coil framer, 1 Hitachi NV75AG coil.
We are slowly accumulating coil framers because you can go so long without reloading and it's easier to clear jams. Basically you get more done when you aren't constantly reloading and really the gun isn't very heavy with a full coil of framers in it. We've had the Max CN890II for about 2 or 3 years and it's been in the shop a lot. Way too often, but it is a really nice gun. I bought the Hitachi NV75AG last spring and it will shoot a 3" x .131" nail and has been good. It's light and I put a Dead On Tools rafter hook on it. Right now we have to change the o-rings on it.
We recently (2 months) bought the Hitachi NV83A1 coil framer. I debated buying it or the Makita and went with the Hitachi. The engine on the NV83A is the same as the NR83A and for us that gun has been bulletproof. I put a Dead On Tools hanger on it and now it is everyone's favorite gun. One thing I love about the Hitachi is that it shoots so fast. When nailing double studs together, you can nail as fast as you want and it will keep up.
Tim...a coupla questions.
What is a dead on tool hanger?
How many nails are there in a coil vs a stick?
The reason I'm asking is that I hate loading those coil nailers.

Blue,I'll check my Hitachi coil nailer tomorrow for you but I think it's 240 nails.Joe Carola
Thanks Joe. I'll count my stick nailer.

I got a pic of Jasen using the Hitahci with the hanger today when we were building a rake wall. http://pic9.picturetrail.com/VOL293/2163851/6234797/81923255.jpg
