I am looking for some help and hope this hasn’t been covered before.
Does anybody know if the the shingle manufacturers suggest leaving a small gap (~1/16″ to 3/32″) between vertical edge of shingles when the weather is cold (~30 degs) so the shingles don’t bend up when they get hot???
If anybody knows of specific rules cited by manufacturers I would really appreciate knowing the source.

I'm my own source. Laid shingles for twenty years.
yes, you don't want to fit them too tight when winter nailing. You don't really need to make too much of an effort to create that space though because there is usually a pimple on each end where the seal-down strip bleeds over the edge. In warmer weather, it will be soft enough to mash in snug but in the cold, you'll have to bump it a couple times to fracture it off. A sixteenth is plenty.
There was another thread on winter asphalts about a month or so ago, so try the search feature. Maybe Santa will help you find it..
