For a long time it seemed like in both furniture and upscale homes there was a fair interest in the “Colonial Revival” style but that seems to be about dead outside of New England…or am I wrong?
What types of housing seem most predominent in your area? Is anybody still building homes along the lines of Colonial Revival achitecture?

New homes around here (southern New England) are in the early 21st century McMansion style. Lots of roof projections that do nothing other than leak, vinyl 1-over-1 windows with flat vinyl casing, and miles of putty-colored plastic siding, all hiding behind imposing vinyl fencing, like it was a fort hunkered down in the middle of some surburban frontier.
The next generation is gonna look back at this era of housing, and gag. It's all so the same, so, boring.
Of course, they're still selling, otherwise, they wouldn't be building them, now, would they.

Same affliction up here in northern new england area. Winding developments that go nowhere and hog land, with gable and hip roofs, cut up with strange dormers, minimal or no outside trimwork, flat window trim, half rounds over 'palladium' windows with snap-in grills, french doors and window walls -- like the window ads on teevee, long asphalt driveways, no sidewalks, white painted walls, minimal finish carpentry inside, giant water sucking jacuzzi tubs with ego inflating surrounds and disgustingly bland ceramic tiles, bland, oversized kitchens filled with cheap laminate knock-down cabinets, master bathrooms and walk-in closets the size of what bedrooms used to be. And don't forget, they most all still use the same insulation and heat/cooling systems as thirty years ago.If a peak oil crisis does ever happen, I can see these houses going down to make room for realistic, liveable houses.
