Then go with ceramic or pocelain.
Ceramic is easier to cut and most likely on the wallet as well.
People will pay for WOW under the right circumstances. Just might not like YOUR wow.
side note: there is a really interesting concrete stepped spillway restoration going on near me. Being done on a resevoir that is part of the NYC water system. Thay have steel step forms ready made and the are pouring a section at a time. The whole spillway must be 50 to 60 yds long. I'd love to take a few pics for you but I'm afraid I'll end up arrested.[email protected]
if you want it for resale, then go with porcelien. That will give you lots of options and be gentle on your budget. Its definitely the biggest return on your cost of material. If you want conservative, then stay with softer colors like cream, white, beige or other lighter colors that go with the room. To get some wow without the extra costs and without turning off people, do some type of alternating pattern with the tile. You can use the same color thoughout the shower but use different sizes or styles. Example would be 6x6 for the bottom 42", then use 3x6 in a subway style for the rest. Or use 6x6 thoughout but have a band in the middle where you do 6x6's in a diamond pattern. You could also use different patterns and use the chair rail tile pieces to separate them, etc. Also, doing a tile corner shelf for soap, shampoo, etc. are nice.
