I am building a house on the coast in Florida and am thinking about using TRAX, (I think) for the deck and porch floors. Architect says no one uses it because it is too expensive. He says 25 bucks for a 12 foot board.
Is this right? I am looking for ultra low maintenance, but not at those prices.
TIA

The brand name is Trex, it is ultra low maintenance, and the price is about right.
Check out the archives. Just type in "Trex" and see mucho past dicussion, pro and con.

Never underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
A few years ago when I was building Trex decks I charged around $20 a square foot, and yes, the material is quite expensive. At that time I think it was $2.20 a linear foot for the decking boards with the embosed woodgrain and $1.80 a linear foot for the plain stuff.
I also need a new deck and I will be using a Trex type of material. My reasons are the very low maintenance, very slow color change if any, and the new type of PT eats most fasteners will it eat me?? I built a trex deck 10 years ago and it looks the same just a little lighter in color, can't say the same for the wood decks of the same age.
