I have wet plaster ceilings in my 40 year old home. In the living room,
a raised crack appears running perpendicular to the joists down the center of the room. The crack has ben repaired several times over the past 15 years. The crack gets worse in the winter. I think it is a result of the joist shrinking and pulling the plaster together causing a raised crack rather than an open crack. Is there any way to repair this permanently.

What do you mean by wet plaster? 15 years and it should be stable by now. Since the crack is perpendicular to the joists, I would guess your problem is some low hanging joists stressing the blueboard. If that is the problem, no "plaster" repair is ever going to fix that. A laser level would identify this problem if that is what it is.
