As the discussion continues on the elusive subject of concrete counter tops. I am wondering if anyone has a solution to the finish question. I want a finish that resisits stains, heat (to place pans on) and forms a sanitary food safe surface. Epoxy seems to cover food safe and stains but, does not offer much heat resistance. Any ideas?

I prefer a non-film, penetrating, silicone-based sealer over epoxies. Penetrating sealers are not as impervious to stains as a film finish and thus need to be periodically renewed if you want "bulletproof" (or as close as you can come to it) stain protection. As long as you don't allow standing water overnight they seem to do just fine. Citric acids have not been a problem either.
It's a simple wipe-on, wipe-off application. Heat is not a limiting factor, and it's food safe. I renew every 18 months or so, it takes all of 30 minutes to do another 3 coats.
One brand that's readily available is Sealer's choice by Aqua Mix. Call 800-366-6877 for a tech sheet.
