got a job to build up windows & exterior doors on house wwith concrete walls. windows are vinyl . whats the best method of doing build up & trim & how do you fasten it to sides.
need to hang all interior doors also , problem is interior walls are steel studs. How does one avoid using screws and the resulting big holes due to the heads,
thanks for any ideas in advance.

what is "build up "..
and on the interior.. is it rocked yet ?
build-up : from window to wall face, yes rock is up . i expect to have to use mdf for build up & pine for casing. have heard you build complete unit on floor then install by gluing to wall & window frame ? got a better idea ?
Still not clear on what you mean by build up.
Are you refering to attaching a wood buck inside the concrete opening to attach the window to? If so, our local code would require treated wood in contact with the concrete.
If a wood frame was not provided for the interior doors, then use trim screws - they will have a reasonably small head.

house walls are styrofoam with concrete poured between , brick veneer exterior , interior strapped & drywalled . exterior to interior approx 10" Minus window frame thickness = buildup, thats the only name I have ever heard it called around here (ontario can)
interior trim... you can use trim screws or a finish gun with glue.. angle the nails to hold the trim, the glue will bond..
exterior "build-up"... styrofoam ?... the form mfr. must have some suggested details.. who was the form mfr.?Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
mfg of stryrofoam blocks is "integra-spec. ps what are trim screws not familiar with this term thanks
Ken,
I build with Integra Spec. The exterior window and door openings are usually formed with wooden core molds called bucks. Don't you have any of these? Even if they used aluminum forms, you should be able to nail your window jamb extensions sideways to them through shims. As Mike said, the interior door openings in steel studs ought to have 2 x 4 rough openings fastened to the steel. If they don't, you've got trouble. I wouldn't know what to suggest.
ron... did you go to Newfy ?... you been hibernating ? where ya beeeeen all winter ?Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Hi Mike,
I've been here all bloody winter, keeping pretty low profile, chasing new GF and building a concrete house (for a customer). I'm hoping to get two more for this spring and summer. Houses, that is.
I sent you an email a while back but must have been to a dead address or something.
I've dropped in to read a bit here about once every couple of weeks but haven't posted anything in a year or so. I used to be able to make time for it. How you finding it these days being the voice of reason here? Too intimidating for me, buddy.
I'm still at [email protected]
