I am considering installing concrete overlay (miracoate or increte (thincrete)) on top of 5/8″ cement board for portions of the second floor. This would be stained to match slab on grade @ first floor. This would be for public areas of second floor to match carpet height of bedrooms. Does anybody have any experience with this technique and or products. I am open to suggestions. Please help.

We've used stamped polymer overlays (surecrete, I think), but it was installed by trained people and over a slab. The results have been great thus far. I'd think the underlayment and floor structure would make a big diff. The material has a great compression rating, usually in excess of 5000 psi, but if the floor structure is shaky, that won't matter a lot. Other than that, the installer should follow mfg recommendations.
Thanks for the input. I have spoken to some local experts who believe that the products that I mentioned work great over wood frames. Instead of concrete board they recommend using felt paper, expanded metal lath, scratch coat and finish coat. The cost for this on the west coast is over $13 per foot. I was hoping to reduce the cost by doing some of the work myself. I feel more comfortable installing cement board instead of metal lath. I then might lay a base coat and embed fiberglass mesh ( EIFS installation). Then install a finish coat. Still looking for recommendations or somebody to tell me I am crazy.Adam Greisz<!----><!---->

JLC had an article in the last year about someone that does do concrete thin overlays for the purpose of being able to stain or stamp them. They use them over both wood and floor bases. You can buy the article online at http://www.jlconline.com and look under Research.
Thank you I will check it out.Adam Greisz<!----><!---->
