Hello all. I’ve just poured a post base (rebared footing) in a basement floor. The purpose of such is to support 1. jack pole, 2. 1st floor joists (cut out for new stairs), 3. stair well wall, 4. 2nd floor joists, 5.non-bearing wall. The stair is a corner unit with basic 3′ square landing mid-rise and one 90 deg turn. I had planned on a couple weeks prior to stair framing and subsequent concrete loading, but……….the customer has rearranged the schedule (they need a financial breather) and would like the stairs done rather than other stuff. Anybody have a guess as to how quickly I could load the concrete??? ps. basic quickrete mix, footing is a 24″ square base 16″ high tapering to a 16″ square at top. basement is a damp 50 deg temp. thanks in advance
Kevin

AMSchmidt,
It depends on your load weight and the design strength of the concrete.
This little sketch may help you visualize the concept.

Making the judgement call from your chart (crystal clear btw!), I think waiting at least 1 week prior to beginning would be the absolute minimum. Thanks for the info.

1 week should a safe bet.
Be aware though that the results obtained from bagged concrete mix is somewhat erratic due to poor quality control. Heck though - guys here have reported getting bad concrete delivered by concrete companies too! Matt
Thanks for the reassurance!

Kevin,
Well, the sketch wernt that clear. I couldn't draw the logarithmic curves that would have started steeper, then leveled off.
Except in hi-critical and lo-critical conditions, a week is standard. In lo- critical situations, like new framing, a day can be enough.
I recently read of a job where the clients wanted a 1000 year foundation for a heavy religious monument. The GC poured a special slow setting mix very high in Pozollans for the first slab, on the order of 6'-10' thick. Then waited months to place a slip sheet of sand and pouring the second, identical slab on top of the first. They planned on waiting a year after the second pour to start building the monument.
