I need to form a concrete ramp over an existing slab. The thick end of the ramp is 7″ and it tapers out to a point in 72″. Should I make the thin end about 1″ thick (to prevent a very narrow section that will easily break) or should I cut into the existing slab to give it more depth. I do live in an area subjected to sub zero temperatures.
I would rather be mountain biking.

Tapering to a one inch "point" should be fine as long as you join the new concrete to the old for the length of the ramp. Attach a length of wire mesh to the old slab prior to pouring new.
