Hello Fine Homebuilding,
I am interested in putting in a concrete threshold below my 2 door swing gate, there is a fairly big opening ~ 6 inches on one side, to about 2inches on the other (from bottom of gate to top of ground). I was hoping to pour a concrete threshold that will be even to the gate, the length is about 8 ft, sould be about 6 inches wide, and 12 inches deep from the lowest point. The big reason for this is a new member to our house (8week old Boxer puppy) will soon be curious to see what is on the other side. So to prevent him from crawling underneath the gate, or digging a bit to make it easier, is the reason why I am interested in the concrete threshold.
Is there anything I should consider doing this, like rebar? Is this even a project worth pursuing? I was considering using quickrete, and a bit of it, will this work?
Thanks in advance for your help
Robert

There's lotsa ways to "try"
There's lotsa ways to "try" to solve that problem. Before you go to that much work, tho', what are you doing about the rest of the fence? No need to bullet-proof a gate and have the bugger dig a hole under the fence elsewhere. BTDT. Raised GSDs for 40 yrs.
What kind of ground cover is there in the gateway now?
I'd suggest you use landscape timbers.
For concrete you'd need 6-7 80# bags to make that threshold.
