I’m adding a wheel chair ramp at an exit to an asphalt parking lot. The asphalt is about 6 in. below the threshold of the door. I’m planning on a 48″ wide ramp, running out 6 feet, down to the asphalt grade. I plan to dig out through the asphalt, down to get room for 4″ of gravel for a base. I am thinking of setting something in the cement that I can fasten 4x4s to so I can add some railings and to use some of that fiber board for the joint between the building and the ramp. I plan to use wire reinforcement. What I am not sure about is how to transition between the threshold of the door to the slab, so there is nothing to trip on. At the threshold of the door, looking outward, there is about 2 inches of concrete sloping down at a 45 degree angle (this is part of the slab). How can transition from this slope to the slab, or do I need to? I don’t want to create a tripping hazzard. I would also appreciate any comments re: my general plan. This is my first attempt at concrete work. I’m located in South Texas so frost isn’t an issue.
Thanks,
