I’m wanting to build a barn with a concrete floor. i have no trouble building the barn but was wondering what would flat concrete work cost to have placed and finished in sc. does anyone know a general sq. ft. figure before i waste anyone’s time asking them for a bid. the barn will be 24×24 and i will want a 6in slab because heavy equpiment will be in there for work. thanks.

A rule of thumb might be this. Figure the cubic yardage, multiply by about $200. Excavation and prep work will be additional. A slab at 4" will have 1/3 cf per sf, so 1/3 divided by 27 times $200 comes to about $2.44 per square foot.
Where I live in NC basic concrete flat work, new construction, goes for around $45 a cubic yard (labor and forms only) or the more premium outfits charge around $3.50 a square foot turnkey for a 4" slab. This is assuming the concrete truck can back right up to the pour, and you will be responsible for your lawn, etc.
So, going strictly by the yard, figuring about $90 a yd for 3000 PSI concrete with fiber might be about (11 yds x $90 = ~$1,000 materials) + (11 yds x $45 = ~$500 labor) giving a total minimum job cost of around $1500. Any gravel, or excavation or other special materials like rebar, wire, etc and the associated labor would be extra too.
I have noticed by prices given on this forum that concrete prices are highly variable depending on the location so that is a huge consideration.
Another thing to think about is do you just intend to "float" this slab or do you want to get below the frost line = ie - how deep is the frostline where you live - If sc means South Carolina, I would guess it could be anywhere between zero to 18".
More important than cost is trust in the concrete contractor. Because concrete is nearly permanent, treatment of the substrate (filling material, compaction etc), re-enforcement and finishing to spec are soooo important (read a few of the horror stories on this forum about poorly poured slabs) that you really should start talking with concrete contractors in your area, go see some of thier work, maybe at your nieghbors or projects that they've done in town, and then wonder about the price.
I've seen ranges everywhere from $3/sq ft to $12/sq ft. Depends on alot of things...

in my neck of the woods its around 2.65 materials and labor per sq ft (based on a 3.5 inch slab), but in your case going a 6inch slab will run you more.
