We’ve got a project we’re doing designs on where the blotted hours have run out. This is larger than normal project for us, and due to the changes, we have tied up a little more time than I thought we would.
The question: Do we do a separate agreement for construction drawings or do we take a chance and roll it into the contract?
This isn’t usually an issue, due to fact we collect enough up front. In hindsight, this amount should have been increased. Our typical project is at or below 100K. This on started at 160K and is creeping up on 200K.
We’ve got a 99.9% chance of getting the project, so I feel pretty good about it. I just didn’t want to commit with my designer until we had been paid for that phase. It would really help us to have the construction drawings to better price the job prior to writing the contract. It’s like a catch 22!
