After going through a very preliminary discussion with my architect on my future home, we have come to agree that I will be doing alot of work on my house on my own (Owner built). However there are some jobs that are simply beyond my abilities, or the equipment/time isn’t worth it. Being that I have never contracted a big job out, should I expect a hard time from tradesfolk when I approach them to do work on my place since they will be following me? Specifically I am looking at excavation/trenching/Plumbing connections to street/Foundation pour (All the below grade stuff basically), having the roof done professionally (Standing Seam Steel), HVAC systems (Radiant floor, mini ducts connected to air exchanger and heat pump), and masonary on a Double fireplace and stone half-wall.
My fear is (especially with the roof and HVAC, since the rest can be done before I start framing) that trades won’t want to follow an amature onto a jobsite, and have to be working with his screw-ups to make their job fit. I can understand that mindset, and am sympathetic that you must see alot of bizarre DIY solutions. Just wondered how I should approach all this with the trades and what kinds of responses I should expect.
