I am looking at purchasing a home built on a concrete slab. The downdraft cooktop is located on an island in the middle of the room and, unfortunately, is electric. Does anyone know of a flexible natural gas piping system that might be run through the vent ducting and meet building code? The house I have now was built in 1947 on a pier and beam foundation which made it simple to convert an electric stove to gas.
Regards,
Phil

Don't know fer sure but, to guess..no way. Why not add a gas stove top where ya can do it, and have both? Thats what I am doing, 'cept the other way around..ele. on the island, and a gas oven and top in counter run.

There is a flexable gas line system called CSST.
I have no idea if it would be approved for use in the exhaust pipe.
But there are a couple of thoughts. Is the electric in conduit. If so you might be able to replace that with the CSST.
You might abandon the downdraft and replace it with an overhead vent.
You might add post to each end of the island and hide the gas in one of the post.
