Did I ever read in these forums a technique of coping base with a grinder vs. coping saw? I kinda sorta thought I did, but coulnd’t find it.
I’ve got 160 lf of MDF base to cut and install tomorrow, and if there was a better faster way to cope the corners, I’d try it.

Coping with a grinder is the way to go. Either use two sanding discs back to back, or use a flexible backer and a disc- 24 or 36 grit works fine. It's extrememely dusty, as you can imagine, so I try to pre-cope as much as I can outside.
The actual process is basically self explanatory- miter cut as usual, then follow the cut edge with the grinder, usually grinding away from the edge.

Here are some pics for you. I back-bevel the straight, lower portion of the base on the mitersaw and snap that part off before coping (80% less grinding & dust).
A table saw provides a nice work surface (I hold the base against the table & fence for stability). I helps to hold the work piece/fence and direct the grinder with the thumb of that hand on the guard.
The two disk method mentioned by Zak, allows the disk to spin down for a cleaner edge and blow the dust away from your face on both right and left copes.
Dust mask is a good idea, as is working outside or with a fan in the window.
there is a really long thread from a month or two ago with videos..

use the searh function...

Thanks all for the thread links. I tried the seach function but had a hard time finding it, the main thread was back in July of 06 and too much stuff came up prior that I didnt' find it.
Gonna get me some disks and give it a shot, that video looks awesome. I'm ready for a new trick.
When I do it I first flip the base upside down on my miter saw and cut the straight
part with the saw, just don't go down to far. Then I set the moulding on the saw and stand and use it as a table when I'am grinding. I also use my hold down clamp
thats on the saw to hold it while I grind
