Okay, so I posted a messasge here a couple months ago about using Formica for a backsplash. I really wanted to do it (and I might still), but the tech folks at Formica advised me against using their product near a cooktop. So I have another idea…
I’m thinking of using copper (probably flashing) between the counter and cooktop in my Kitchen remodel. Does anyone have any experience with this that they could share?
In particular, I am wondering what it is like to keep clean. I imagine its just about the same as stainless steel in this application. I am also wondering if leaving it as a flat surface with a polished finish is good, or should I “distress” the surface so as have an irregular pattern that will hide the imperfections that are inevitable.
I can’t be the first person to think of this- I’m not that original. So please share your experience.
Thanks. Jeff

No experience, but a few ideas, since I want copper countertops. Copper will naturally patina and this will absorb the imperfections, so rather than shooting for that shiny finish, just let it age gracefully and naturally. You can speed the patina along with an ammonia wash. Or, you can flame the copper to get a cool design on it, or treat it with certain chemicals to get a cool design, or a combination of the two (do this outdoors). I'm not in the distressing camp for anything - just plain living is all I need to distress floors and furniture.
