Why? You're fighting a natural tendency for copper to oxidize and protect itself. If you polish it, it will just darken again. Let it go and it will eventually turn verdigris (copper green).
Where you can get pre-patinated (green) copper, people pay extra for it. Just consider yourself ahead of the process by a few years.

*While most yearn for a nice verdis finish, if you're adamant about it, try a salt/vinegar solution. About a cup of salt in a bottle of vinegar. Soak a sponge, let it sit in a small spot, see how it works.When done, rinse well and seal the copper to maintain the shine.
