I’m getting ready to replace my 100yr old porch roof, which was originally steel covered later with many layers of asphalt roll roofing with copper. There was a yankee gutter detail which I’m replicating, a flat horizontal curb that tapers back to the gutter outlet.
I was wondering what gage copper should I use for the continuous edge strip? 16 or 20oz?

I hope to have a photo essay on doing just that job starting monday. I'll be using 16 oz copper for all of it. Ready to install gutter liner and then flat seam soldered pans.

Hey Sphere
Thanks. I'll be looking forward to seeing the pics.
I was going to do the gutter liner/parapet first to achieve proper drainage and then ice and water shield the roof because I'm going to be working on it to restore the paint on the siding starting in the spring. Do you see any problem putting copper over the ice and water shield later? I was going to lap the gutter liner with the ice and watershield and solder a locking strip afterward so later I can just attach my pans.

Just lay some red rosin over the I&W , if it boils up in the solder joint it gets messy. But we have soldered right over it.
I just (last Sat) got the bevel strip in a previosly square box gutter ( the bevel helps soldering and lets ice push UP not out) and picked up my liner copper day before yesterday.
I too will use a cleat to hook the roof pans to, attached to the roof side of the gutter liner. Just waiting on decent weather..been a washout here for weeks.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
