cordless circular saw information?

ClaysWorld | Posted in Tools for Home Building on March 10, 2006 07:00am

Can any one point me to cordless circular saw reviews, or threads on same? I tried search and advanced search and get nothing. I was originally talking about this http://forums.taunton.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=tp-breaktime&msg=70360.1 . So I thought I’d like to investigate a little further. But sometimes for some reason I can’t get search to get jiggy for me. Plus I’m on broadband and advanced search hangs like I was on dial up. Yea that’s a bad reminder.

I have the full history of mags so point me to it Please.

Thanks. But I've got a couple and I was trying to find if there were an article/tool review. And if there isn't then HMMMMMMM why not.

Lets see if I can find Andy and find out from him, might be on the list for future tool reviews.

I did just finish a advanced search using any of t he words and got nothing, then went to the bottom of the page and searched and got lots so I'm reading over them now. But I don't see a tool review yet.

And on lower left search included is a screen shot to show that something isn't quite rite with the search function.

And then I did a preview to check it out and I see that the problem is my spelling in the search que. Spelling is your freind.

http://www.toolsofthetrade.net   is always a good place to start.  Tools of the Trade is a Hanley Wood publication (Journal of Light Contruction magazine, Remodeling magazine, etc).  It's a respectable authority IMO.

Here's what their site pulled up in about 10 seconds:

    http://toolsofthetrade.net/articles/showarticle.asp?articleid=1813&qu=circular+saws&ct=TOTT

    and

    http://toolsofthetrade.net/articles/showarticle.asp?articleid=1635&qu=circular+saws&ct=TOTT

and then for us tough guys    ;)

Aw geez, sorry about that.  You're right, I dug around a bit and couldn't find any good reviews either.  Odd.  I found reviews of everything cordess from cut-out tools, to recips, to drill/drivers..... but this is the only one I dug up on a cordless circular saw:

        http://toolsofthetrade.net/articles/showarticle.asp?articleid=1479&qu=cordless+circular+saws&ct=TOTT

Maybe they know that most all of them suck so bad that they're not worth reviewing.  G,D,&R....

If you're not already committed to a line of batteries (and it sounds like you aren't) I'd look at the Milwaukee 28V.  I think that thing is a pretty penny though.  Might also look at Panasonic as well as Makita's new line of LI cordless.  View Image

Don't make me line up all my 18v and 14.4v Bosch batteries and take a picture of them to show you I thought my decision was already made.

I want the lithium stuff to be backward compatible, na aint gonna happen.

          1. rcobb | Mar 11, 2006 10:49am | #12

The soon to be released milwaukee 18 v li-ion will be backwards compatable

i got the milwaukee li-on kit and use their circular saw more than the corded varients. the sawsall is the real bomb, though.

          3. VTNorm | Mar 11, 2006 11:36pm | #15

I've been using the Milwaukee LI kit since Sept and I can count on one hand the number of times the corded circ saw has been out of the case since then. And that's usually because I forgot to charge the batteries before heading out for the day.

Man I hope Bosch gets with it or I'm gonna be migrating.

I started with Milwaukee and if they keep it up I'll be coming back.

I have the 24V DW and 14.4 Dw, also an old Craftsman14.4 that the batteries have croaked on.  I thought it was toy but it earned its retirement.  The two DW's have been fine for me.  The 14.4s are a little weak for much heavy work but if you just need to cut a couple of 2xs are not bad.  The 24 will chew some pretty serious stuff.  I have the adapters for the 24v line so I can plug in if needed.

If you are happy with Bosch I would go that route because of the battery and charger stash.  I did have a 14.4 Makita and hated it, switch was awkward and it smoked up one battery.  I sold the whole pile to a customer who was impressed with it.

Also kinda interesting that I still find no specific cordless circular saw reviews. ????? Not like there are not alot of em out there.

I did go to the milwakee site and checked out it's lithium saw and that looks nice. Emmmmm tools doollllllllllllllllllll.

I tried Tools of the Trade also but do not see anything on cordless saws.

All your links have strings (cords) attached.  Surely someone has done a comparison.

Ya I'm trying, mostly now it's got me wondering. But not finding any good reviews so far.

I have found some by the item reviews but not the comparison style.

Not a test but may offer some help.
