For my money, I don't do "systems". The convenience of a sigle battery type/make is great, but I prefer to purchase the tools individually. One manufacturer may make a great drill while another makes a superior saw.
That, and the fact that having a case for each tool is much prefered to having one case containing four or five tools. Its quite rare that I'll need both a sawzall and a jigsaw on the same day. Lugging around a huge case for the one tool I need out of it doesn't appeal to me.
My two cents.

My BIL came by to help on a project last weekend. He pulls out a 6 piece Bosch set. I tried each one and I told him he pizz me off because it will cost me about $500, I got to have one!!!
I'm only working about 6months in the States now so I went the cheap route and bought a Ryobi package for $169.00. I got a drill, sazall, circ saw, light, dustbuster, and 2 batteries. To buy 2 extra batteries costs only $40.00. Since replacement batteries are a big part of the cost I find it good for me. The tools are good enough for my needs. I like the power of corded tools however and really only use a cordless drill with any regularity. I hate being up on a roof trimming some plywood with a cordless saw and having it die on me.
i got a rigid 5 pc. i think. circular, sawzall, impact driver, drill, flashlight w/ 3 batteries. it's usually about $500, but i picked it up on sale for $250. heck of a deal. they're good quality tools and everything is garaunteed for life, including batteries. that was worth buying the kit itself. it is a bit of a pain having to dig through a giant bag for what you need, but it doesn't bother me too much. i was at the HD earlier this week and noticed they had a similar sale going on.
