Is there a “correct” material for a porch ceiling? At my local Menards the seem to carry various sizes of car siding to be used on a ceiling. I noticed that there also is a narrow, beaded wainscotting. Is one more correct than the other? I am adding a porch onto a “prairie style” remodel is this matters. Also, is there a preferable color for a porch ceiling? I know older homes were often painted light blue to mimic the sky but does this still hold true today? Thanks for all your help, Bill

bill,
Here in NW Ohio, all the period (from way back thru the 50's) are beaded fir. Even the vinyl manufacturers are copying that beaded look for soffit, must be histerical. As to the light blue paint, can't say that I've only seen it once around here. Sounds nice though, why not?

We did our wrap around porch ceiling in a white vinyl that looks like bead board. Came out great and is maintenance free. I believe the brand is Certainteed but there are a lot of manufacturers out there...
1/2" x 3 1/2" was a standard, the blue to mimick da sky, keeps wasps from nesting....fer real.
