Varies... here (No. VA) I was quoted something insane for ip (ironwood ...
pau lope ... all one plant???) like $6 a board foot. But I've read of prices more
like $2/lf elsewhere.
Weird stuff -- they did give me a free chunk of it -- in water, it SINKS...
For even more exotic species -- many harvested sustainably -- try
http://www.ecotimber.com/Pages/PriceList.html
*Ironwood is not s pecific species. Ironwood is any wood that has a density greater than 1. So any wood that will sink (specify gravity> 1) is called an ironwood.

Check out Beautiful Homes Supply in Maryland http://www.beautiful homes supply.com and they can send you in a direction

In Los Angeles a 2x4 is $3.44/LF, 2x6 is $5.11, 2x8 is $6.83. Home Depot can order it for you slightly cheaper.
Also, check out Info on Pau Lope or Yard Locations for All Coast Forest Products
*Southern CT, 1 by 4, $ 1.15/lineal ft; 1by6, 1.90; 1by8, 2.80; 5/4by6, 2.50; 2by4, 2.65; 4by4, 6.00. Prices can vary with each order.
*Andrew, sad but true, $6/BF is not insane. What is insane is some of the installation, ahem, techniques I've seen using these fine species. All this after paying for the wood, gorrilla glue, and screws used.

Does anybody know how much Ipe generally runs? I live in Maryland.
-Jeff
I'm in MD too (Waldorf, southern MD) and also looking for Ipe locally. I did find a place close to Ananpolis, J.F. Johnson Lumber Co. that quoted me the follwoing prices yesterday:
1x6 $1.86 LF
1x4 1.77 LF
5/4x6 2.46 LF
They said they sold a lot of the 1x6 since it was strong enough for 24" OC.
I posted on some news groups and had another guy from MD say he had his stuff shipped in from Norfolk and NY cheaper. You found a local supply?
