i am looking for a product used as an edging for plastic laminated countertops.
there was an article on the product a few years ago in fhb.
it is about 3/8 thick by 1 1/2 and has a beveled topedge and flat front, and both of those edges are laminated. the edging is fastened to the front of the countertop using a spline into a groove.
the net effect is very similar to that of a solid surface top, ie no dark lines in the laminate edge.
anybody have info on that?

did find the article in the on line archive too
anybody have experience with this material?
any tips etc?
I build PermaEdge tops all the time. Wilson Art offers seminar training courses for thier product. I have not used the other products, but would assume as much care must be taken in set up as with the permaedge.
The customers I have, that have chosen this product, have been very pleased with it. In the 7 years I have been building the, I have had no call backs for product or workmanship issues.

thanks dave for the info, i assume that the critical step is cutting the groove for the edging. I did find the fhb article
i've been laminating tops for years with a wood bevel edge theres a picture in the photo gallery
will contact wilsonart
thanks again
steve
You are right that cutting the grove is critical, but preping the edge is also important. With this system you apply the surface laminate first. After triming the laminate edges to the slab, there is a slight overhang left by the flush trimming bit. This occurrs with both the bearing type and self piloting type bits. That little overhang of laminate has to be planed flush to the edge of the slab. If you don't get it flush the edging will not install square and exactly flush with the surface.
Wilson Art tries to sell tools to accomplish all of thier prescribed steps. I bought the corner templates for radiuse corners, and have made do with the other tools I have in my shop. Power plane with fence, stionary disk sander, and assorted jigs I have made. You probably have enough to not need to purchase thier tools also.
