Countertops CARDOSA A muted gray stone with faint white graining, honed cardosa has the look of soapstone, but it’s much more durable and usually costs less (from $70 a sq ft from Stone Design; 800-424-1332).
Anyone have an opinion about this stuff? Used it? Does it need to be sealed with mineral oil like the soapstones? Do you agree with the claim that it is more durable than soapstone?

I've been reading thru all the soapstone posts and came across discussion of pietra cardosa that compared it to soapstone. Dennis in WA are you out there? Did you choose the cardosa for that project and what do you think of it? I know granite may be less expensive here in Austin, but it's just too trendy and too glossy...Thought about richlite or concrete as well, but am concerned about their durability.

Greetings pegkip,
This post, in response to your question, will bump the thread through the 'recent discussion' listing again.
Perhaps it will catch someones attention that can help you with advice.
Cheers
You might get more responses if people could read your posts. All of your posts that I've noticed, except one, have been in flea bite size type, quite impossible to read.
Oops! I wend back and edited the first two posts in this thread...
They look the same as everyone else's when I view them on my screen. Probably a resolution issue? What font size do y'all usually use when posting?
That's true pegkip,
You can adjust your text size to around 13 -15 and make it easier for the readers.

I just fabricated soapstonein my entire kitch which is rather large with dark soapstone....so my question to you is....Durable? What do you mean?
Soapstone does scratch but is easily sanded then easily mineral oiled...I mean easily!!
Its probably the most non porus natural stone of all and does not stain.
I've put seriously hot pots right off the burners on it with no problem what so ever.
The cost is real fair compaired to everything else.
I'm super sold on soapstone and found a company that is unreal...Price wise and attention wise....two pieces didn't match up that I put together...they're delivering me two more pieces with out question...They just want me to be happy.
HEy shid happens but when you step up to the plate which is rare these days you get extra bisquits from me.

Ha! Took me a while to figure out what phone # you were referring to...blond moment, I guess!
No, I don't work for them...I cut & pasted part of the description from another website where I was doing research.
I've heard that soapstone tends to chip and scratch...now that's not my recollection of the soapsotone lab countertops of my youth, but I may have not been paying much attention to stuff like back then. The buzz was that this pietra cardosa looked alot like soapstone but is more durable....
