Ok I know this stuff may seem kinda basic but bear with me. I know that when hand nailing hardwood trim it is best to predrill so as not to split the wood but with a nailgun I’m guessing that is not the case as they drive the nail in so fast that it eliminates the chance of splitting. is this a correct assumption? I’ve yet to have a problem wiht it but wanted some input from others. also when putting in chair railing what is the concensus on caulking. I typically caulk the top and the joints but don’t caulk the underside as no one will see it. am I cutting corners or is this acceptable practice. thanks.
