I have a typical 1960 raised ranch with a 24” cantilever extending out across the front of the house. The current panel on the bottom of the cantilever has popping paint, is coming loose in places and just looks crummy.
I want to install a couple of flush electrical outlets in this area and clean it up while doing so. Is there any reason not to pull the existing material and use this to replace it? Is there a better product? Right now it appears to be 1/4” ply of some sort, and is skinned with metal on the section above the garage doors.

I would consider using Hardiboard sheets (1/4x4'x8'). The Hardiboard acts like stucco so paint adheres and lasts. It is also fire resistant so if you are in or near a fire zone it acts as a deterent. Use galvanized nails to install.
Isn’t LP Smartside a direct hardiboard alternative?
