Cracked heat exchanger repair?
Ok, right off the start I realize the only safe fix for a visibly cracked heat exchanger is to shut down, ventilate, evacuate, replace. All lectures aside if just trying to buy some time and gas concentrations remain below 25 ppm is there a quick fix? Temporary cures such as high heat boiler cement, or something like the patches used to repair mufflers? Also
Is applying a weld to the crack considered a permanent fix or does the full exchanger need to be replaced (assuming the rest is undamaged and weld is correct)?
Thanks for any help.

HE cast iron, SS, or mild steel?
CI needs to be preheated for sucessful welds with nickel rod.
Bothe SS and mild steel are easier to weld, but if cracked to start with, another crack could occur elsewhere soon.
Best to replace this summer
If you have 25ppm in the ambiant air, you need to shut down NOW.
There is no repairing a heat exchanger.
Anybody wants to argue otherwise, show me a letter from the manufacturer that says you can.
