I have a problem with the brass unions to two shower mixing valves. The sleeve of the unions (three out of four) have cracked and leaked, and I suspect the 1/2″ male pipe thread fittings were overtightened. I didn’t assemble these, but it looks like the person (or gorilla) who did used about 20 turns of teflon tape. So my question is — can teflon tape add enough thickness to make brass crack?

that and off shore fittings ..
or off shore fitings alone will do that...
can ya figure out why the 20 turns of teflon???
sounds DIY'ing...

WOW!!! What a Ride!
Actually was a licensed bonded and all off that plumber who came highly recommended by idiots, as it turns out. I just send them bills now...
The unions were supplied with the Price Pfister valves. Doesn't sound like a chinese name.
I don't think well of PF...
the unions could still very well be off shore still...
change them out and you should be good to go..

check everything out piece by piece, sounds like different components were "wrenched" together, different threads, or maybe tappered threads ... ditto on the offshore parts! sometimes you don't even get what you pay for ..
