Gents:
I first saw a copy of your magazine two days ago at a doctor’s office. Wonderful!! My subscription order is in the mail.
In the Breaktime column of your January 2005 issue there was a discussion about cracking of the skin on the hands. Like Allen, I don’t think too much about prevention, but when small cracks occur in my hands I use New-Skin; or – better – I put a line of superglue (cyanoacrylate) across the cut, and then wipe away the excess. Gel may work better than liquid, but both work well.
Cyanoacryloates have been used for years as “tissue glue†by the military, and more recently in civilian ERs, which is where I worked until I retired 5 years ago. The superglue holds the skin edges together while healing occurs beneath.
This trick should NOT be used for deeper cuts.

dan, welcome to breaktime. Hope you enjoy your stay here. If you like to talk politics or just general bull #### ting, ask for access to the Tavern. And for your information, there are gentresses here also.
Luckily, winter is gone and so are those painful cracks. I can handle the dry rough skin, but those open wounds make even buttoning your shirt difficult. This line of work is hard on a body.

Calvin:Thanks for the tip about the Tavern, and thanks for the comment. Weather is better in California, some of the year, but I grew up in Chicago and I understand your situation. Working outside in the midwest can be very...trying. Dan
Dan,
Welcome.
I dont mean to be too forward, but we do occasionally have medical questions that need answering, and would love your input.
There is a Orthopedic Surgeon but I dont remember who it was. They only announced that one time a while back.
There is a serious spread of occupations here which lends to a great community and collective brain.
Oh and if you could click on your own name, a profile box will come up. Fill in what you are comfortable with, but location can be helpful for answering geographically challenged questions.

You're welcome dan. As zendo says, come back often. We need someone here that knows more about the body we abuse.Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.
