I built a new home and have a master bathroom with a valted turret like ceiling and the joints have a few large settiling cracks. The drywaller used that new flexi-joint tape andit does not require alot of mud. Anyone know the best way to make sure I dont get these every winter/summer going forward.

What happened to 'Bump'?
I never met a tool I didn't like!
Us newbies didn't understand what "bump" meant and then someone would have to spend a paragraph explaining it. Me, I don't know how to read and reply to "silent" posts.
Seems the Newbies always ask what 'bump' means.

bump
I dont know much about flexi tape never get those good jobs, but the mesh tape cracks on new work all the time. I stick with paper learning curve a bit harder but good joints.
Pass on the answer for what to do but I bumped it again you'll get a hit.
The finish tapers started drinking at noon you may have to wait til morning for an answer.

TK, when was the house finished? Cracks appear after the heat came on? What's the ceiling and floor framed out of? Where's the cracks? in the corners or out away from the corners.
Only one's in the house?

cracks happen because the drywall moved. Now why did it move? What does bump mean?
johnny, what the hell you asking me for?
Bump is the word some use to make the post appear again higher on the list. I never liked it much, like playing kick the can.......or that pain in the #### behind you in line, trying to get closer to the door.Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.

I used 2x8 rafters on a modified hip turret.
OK, I'm guessing you want a serious answer from someone by now.
The cracks are probably from the lumber drying out and shrinking, causing the drywall to move, and crack.
If you just wait until the majority of the shrinking is done, the sheetrock can be repaired and the cracks should stay gone.
If its not the lumber shrinking, its probably something structural. That opens a whole new can of worms.
If you think the tape is still adhered in the mud and the mud is stuck to the board........then this winter you might get away with using a decent caulk smeared in the cracks and repaint. Next winter if it reappears, pull the tape or tape over and all hopefully will be well. Those turret's seem to show movement/cracking moreso than even vaulted ceilings. Seems maybe it's the trapped air / no vent moving things around. Sometimes too when a finisher doesn't prefill gaps, you see premature shrink cracks..........If the cracks are thin, i'd caulk and keep my head down.
Smooth finish or some kind of texture?Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.

caulk will do, but dont get cheap, it should be DAP elastometric or something (about $4 a tube)
